Alanya – Castle and Red Tower

Alanya was the winter residence of the Seljuk sultan Alaeddin Keykubad. We drive up to the castle on the rock above two bays and walk down to the octagonal Red Tower and the shipyard where his fleet was built.

Full description

With more than six kilometres of walls, Alanya Castle encloses an entire hill. At the top stand the inner castle, a small Byzantine church and cisterns, and the view reaches far over the sea.

At the harbour the octagonal Red Tower guards the entrance. Next to it lies the shipyard with its vaulted halls right on the water. The drive from Antalya takes about 2 hours each way; for cruise guests we plan the day closely around the time in port.

Meeting point

We pick you up with vehicle and driver at Antalya cruise port (Port Akdeniz) or at your hotel and bring you back there.

• Comfortable shoes and sun protection – Ancient sites and old-town lanes have uneven paving and little shade; please bring water in summer.
• Entrance fees – Not included in the price and paid on site; we buy the tickets for you at the counter.
