Two days of landscape and history in the lake district: Lake Eğirdir with its peninsula, Kovada national park, the Yazılı canyon and the barely visited ancient city of Adada on the old Roman road.

Highlights

  • Lake Eğirdir – peninsula with fishing harbour and fortress wall
  • Kovada national park with lakes and cedar forest
  • Yazılı canyon with waterfalls and walking trail
  • Adada – ancient city on the Via Sebaste, almost no visitors
  • Rose fields near Isparta (May and June)

Full description

The lake district north of Antalya is green, high and cool – a different face of Turkey. Eğirdir sits on a lake that reaches the horizon; on the peninsula stand fishermen's houses, a Seljuk mosque and remains of the fortress.

Kovada national park and the Yazılı canyon offer short walks along waterfalls. For anyone interested in history the highlight is Adada: the city stood on the Via Sebaste, the Roman road Paul took on his first journey to Antioch in Pisidia. Temples and agora stand in open country.
