Why Dessau-Wörlitz?
In Dessau two eras meet, and both are UNESCO World Heritage. From the late 18th century, Prince Leopold III Friedrich Franz of Anhalt-Dessau created the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz, a landscape of parks, palaces and canals shaped by the Enlightenment. Wörlitz Park is regarded as one of the earliest English-style landscape gardens on the European continent. In 1925 the Bauhaus moved from Weimar to Dessau, where Walter Gropius designed the famous school building and the Masters' Houses. Artists such as Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky and László Moholy-Nagy worked here.
Route

Built in 1925–26 to designs by Walter Gropius, the school with its glass workshop façade is an icon of modernism and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. - Masters' Houses

The landscape garden with lakes, canals, bridges and sightlines is the heart of the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. - Wörlitz Palace
Designed by Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff, the palace is considered an early masterpiece of Neoclassicism in Germany. - Gothic House
This neo-Gothic building in the park was one of the prince's favourite places and houses a collection of stained glass. - Optional: Gondola Ride or Stein Island
