Why Höxter?

Just outside Höxter, Benedictine monks founded the Imperial Abbey of Corvey in 822, which became one of the most important monasteries of the Frankish Empire. Its Westwork, built between 873 and 885, is one of the few almost intact buildings of the Carolingian era. Since 2014 the Westwork and the Civitas Corvey have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the 19th century the poet August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben, author of the 'Song of Germany', worked in the Princely Library and is buried at Corvey. Höxter itself preserves numerous half-timbered houses in the Weser Renaissance style.
