Why Schwerin?
Schwerin is regarded as the oldest town in Mecklenburg and for centuries was the residence of the Dukes and Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg. The present palace took its shape in the 19th century in the style of Historicism; today it is also the seat of the state parliament. Since 2024 the Schwerin Residence Ensemble has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its setting among numerous lakes, above all Lake Schwerin, makes the city particularly charming.
